We are entering the era of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) where utility companies are increasingly using smart meters. These are meters that automatically communicate the usage readings via dedicated communication channels such as power-line communications (PLC), mesh networks (RF) or secure GPRS communication. This provides an enormous challenge of planning, administration of the new and exchanged meters, the initialization of the smart meters, and fast reporting to the utilities companies. With Sigmax’s mobile smart meter deployment software the deployment of smart meters works like a dream.

The smart meter deployment software at a glance
The workflow is generally as follows. The field engineer receives the planning of the ‘to be replaced’ meters on his handheld computer. After arriving at the meter, he scans a bar code and sees all relevant meter details. During the meter replacement, the field engineer enters client-specific data about the meters. Should there be a suspicion of fraud (based on expected use and previous meter readings), the meter will be marked as suspect and will enter a special procedure. The field engineer initializes the smart meter using the smart meter commissioning function of the software. The resident signs on the screen to confirm the meter replacement. Field engineers periodically exchange information between their PDA’s and the back office. Information is exchanged via GPRS. It goes without saying that we can adapt the software to fit to your individual specific workflow.
