Arriva: Mobile Public Transport Inspection

More than 250 enforcement officers at public transport operator Arriva work with Sigmax Public Transport’s OVPocket software — the all-in-one solution for inspections, issuing fines, and drawing up official reports.

Arriva provides urban and regional public transport by bus, as well as regional train services in the Netherlands. You may have seen this operator’s logo in the provinces of Groningen, Friesland, Overijssel, Gelderland, and Limburg. Since May 2019, Arriva’s special enforcement officers (boa’s) have been working with OVPocket software from Sigmax Public Transport.

Every day, more than 250 enforcement officers on Arriva’s trains and buses use Sigmax software. In addition to checking travel tickets, enforcement in public transport is also part of their responsibilities. For example, some officers are authorized to issue fines for aggressive behavior on trains, using Sigmax’s OVPocket on their handheld devices. Inspections, fines, and official reports can all be handled within one integrated system.

What is the OVPocket solution?

OVPocket is an all-in-one solution for mobile enforcement in and around the public transport domain. A combination of handheld software and a supporting web-based back-office environment enables enforcement officers to work as effectively as possible. For example, public transport smart card inspections can be carried out by scanning the cards with the handheld. Where necessary, the officer can issue a replacement travel ticket and the associated fines. In addition, OVPocket can be used as a mobile check-in/check-out device.
